The 1995, in Cadaqués, a quartet formed by soloists of the Empordà Chamber Orchestra, has engaged to accompany to the catalan soprano Chantal Botanch. It was necessary to improvise a name for the poster that will be "Mare Nostrum Musicae". Georges Cayla, then artistic director of the Festival “Côté Cours” of Aix in Provence, remarked the formation and invited it four consecutive years, the name was consecrated…
François Ragot, originally representative of the group, remains the leader and artistic director. Under his leadership, other music professionals joined the founders. "Mare Nostrum Musicae" has now the ability to offer combinations from duos up to chamber orchestra formations through conventional or atypical, like the bass octet known as "Tutti Bassi". They play a wide repertoire varied and eclectic, and collaborate with renowned musicians and singers with many choirs in the region.

In 2015, "Mare Nostrum Musicae" celebrated 20 years, pending which, François Ragot has known to surround of a lot good musicians of the two sides of the Pyrenees.
A first tour to China in 2006 under the aegis of Bishop in the Cathedral of Shanghai. The creation of the "Musical Autumn in Vallespir®" in 2010 that has been four years under the artistic direction of François Ragot.
